Next up on the PubSigs podcast, we have a little tune known as “Break Through Me”. It is another one take, no planning, lets-make-up-a-song-on-the-spot type of recording.
Featured is Mr. Janiak’s melody stricken octave guitar leads along with his skillful scat singing ending with a finale so powerful, it will make the hairs on your taint stand up and salute.
Speaking of scat, exactly how was this term transformed from a word used to describe a style of improvisational singing to an expression that refers to feces? First person to Google the answer and post it as a comment gets a special prize from the PubSigs.
In the mean time, enjoy Break Through Me.

Scat singing was invented in 1973 on the TV show “Sesame Street” by Benjamin Sherman “Scatman” Crothers. Before performing a skit with some muppets, the producers realized that none of the children would be able to understand his thick hoosier accent, so they decided to coin the term “scat” in reference to the “skit” whereby he just sounded like he was mumbling complete jibberish in a humorous way.
Eventually, some of his co-stars from the movie “Zapped!” (featuring hearthrob Scott Baio) caught him playing with his own feces in a dressing room, making a little figure which he had named “Mr. Hankey.” (who later went on to fame via the Comedy Central show South Park)
From that point on, “scat singing” would forever be known as “scat singing” (the latter meaning poop).

Not to forget, his character Halloran was axed in the chest by the Jack Torrance character in the “Shining” simply due to Director Stanley Kubrick’s disdain for the organization HWPLS (Humans Who Play With Shit).
